Hi, I’m W. Lee Brooks, and from an early age I knew I had two goals in life — to discover the secrets of computer technology (which was a shiny new frontier when I was young), and to write stories. I have had a long and successful career in software development, so you could say I’ve achieved my first dream. Now, after a lifetime of dabbling, I’ve gotten serious about writing. On this site, I want to share my journey from amateur to published author and beyond.

So, a little about me. I love all things weird. All of my favorite movies are independent films that might make some people shake their heads — movies like the 2010 Norwegian flick Trollhunter, the hysterically gory Nazi zombie movie (also Norwegian — what is going on in Norway?) Dead Snow, and the alternately touching and bizarre South Korean zombie move Train to Busan. I worshipped Sam Raimi for his rocket sled ride of a horror extravaganza Evil Dead long before he directed his first Spiderman movie. I gravitate toward the horror genre, and my favourite author is Stephen King — I’m proud to say I was traumatized by the dark visions of ‘Salem’s Lot and Pet Sematary not long after reaching puberty, and have been gobbling up such gore ever since. I think my taste for horror began when, as a child, my mother took me to a drive-in that was playing a double feature, as they usually do — I don’t remember what the first movie was, but the second was Jaws, which I was far too young to watch, so I was told to close my eyes and go to sleep. Yeah, right. I stayed up and watched, of course, and by the time the credits rolled, my little body was pumped full of adrenaline and I was shaking like a leaf. I’ve been chasing that feeling ever since.

I like to write speculative fiction. I often write about the supernatural, but I will write anything that strikes me as interesting.

Welcome, friend, on my writing journey. I hope we both learn a thing or two along the way.
